Getting Started

The first step to recieving therapy at Dramatic Pragmatics is by calling to set up a consultation at (914) 305-1210.

SOCIAL SKILLS/ PRAGMATIC LANGUAGE GROUPS: The consultation is an opportunity for us to informally assess your child’s pragmatic language skills, and receptive and expressive language skills as well as to note how other factors such as anxiety, attentional difficulties, behavioral issues and personality factors play into your child’s challenges. The consult appointment is also a “teaching consultation” where we introduce both you and your child to some of the tools, techniques and consistent language that we use in our program. You will be able to provide us any prior evaluations as well as fill out detailed questionares so that we can get the best sense of your child's strenths and weaknesses.  The consultation also helps us with group placement to ensure that each group is comprised of children who are “matched” as the most appropriate fit together in terms of skill level, personality, interests and age.

INDIVIDUAL SPEECH/LANGUAGE THERAPY: To get started with individual speech and language therapy, or to decide whether or not your child needs speech or language therapy, call us to schedule a consultation appointment so that we can meet you and your child, go over your child’s history and development, and determine after meeting your child, what are his/her needs. The consult appointment helps us determine the best course of action for your child, whether it be planning a therapy program or recommending a full language evaluation for your child. As language specialists, we are able to help you navigate questions such as:

·        my child was denied services through the school but I know my child needs help...what can I do?

·        my toddler only has a few words…is this normal?

·        my child has difficulty following directions...is this age appropriate?

·        my child can't seem to think of the right words when trying to express himself...how can I help?

Our goal is to intervene early so that we can  preserve the student’s self-esteem while targeting his/her areas of need such as narrative language, vocabulary development, word retrieval, comprehension, language formulation, thinking and reasoning skills, memory, play skills and ideation, articulation and phonology. Helping your child build skills sets and master strategies to carryover these skills “outside the little red house” is our goal.
